In Maniac Magee, Jerry Spinelli, says, “But the East Enders stayed in the east and the West Enders stayed in the west, and the less they knew about each other, the more they invented.” Do you agree with the idea that the less we know about someone, they more we make up about them? Why or why not? Have you ever experienced this? |

I think it matters because you can't judge people by their cover. Because you don't know what they are like. Some might be nice, sweet and kind, but some might be rude, selfish and mean. I have never been in this situation before.

I agree as I said in my own comment, lets say there is a person online that is like ur BFF though, u don't know them in real life. then lets say they ask for ur phone number. You might not even know who is behind that screen. It could be anybody. Your So called BFF could be this creepy siko u never know unless u actually meet them

Yes I do agree that the less we know about someone the less we like them because if you don't know about someone to much you don't know if you can trust them and you don't feel so safe around them. I don't think I ever experienced this though.

That is the same with me, because I was thought a kid in my class was going to ignore me the whole school year but I wanted to play with her. Then she and her sister started playing with me the whole school year round.

I agree cause sometimes when you think make new friends sometimes they turn into your enemies. Then the people that you think are bad actually turn into your friends. But before that you make up stuff like "Oh she looks mean what if she is mean I do not like her".Then the next month you are best friends with them. And you have not been through this rollercoaster with them yet first it starts out slow then go on and on and then you are friends with them.I have been through this because i did not know they were nice from the beginning.

I would probably agree with this because I've heard people would spread rumors about others that they barely know about, it never happened to me, but I do hear about these types of things, which makes me wonder about certain stuff like if the rumor is badder than I thought.

I think it's plain old RUDE!!! I think this because if you just think about how they act then their friend goes tell that person what you said, you would just hurt their feelings. Plus they might be straight A kids but you think they would have bad grades. I have experienced this, and it's very hurtful. I had to help my friend because she was crying. :(

Yes I have experienced the feeling where you think that you are not going to be friends with a kid but later on you become there friend.I experienced this before at a party I was all by myself just minding my own business. Then a boy came along and I thought to myself I probably won't be that kid's friend.I was skating then the kid came over and started to talk to me

Personally i think this means the less you know someone the more you make up about them, for example the less i knew say Otto (example name) the more I would invent about him. Say he was a nice happy guy, i might think he was constantly grumpy and mad. That's what the term "the less you know the more you invent." means.

Yes, I believe the less you know someone the more you might invent about them, because if you don't really know them you may think their mean when they are actually nice. Yes i've experenced this. When we first to our new house, some of the American kids said that the German kids on our street were mean. So we believed them and thought they were mean. But later the German kid helped us when lots of balls were stuck on our roof by letting us borrow his ladder to get them.

I have experienced this before. I DISagree with the author Jerry Spinelli. The less you know about someone, the less you know. The more you know, the more you know. I think that you should NEVER make things up like how/what the East and West Enders do. I was once told that I was thought of weird and silly, from one of my best friends, BEFORE we were best friends. If you make things up about people, you can get in trouble or something similar to that.
